February 14, 1993. The picture above is of me, cooking a meal for a bunch of my friends. It was my junior year in college, and I even remember the menu, because due to budget restraints and whatnot, mostly I cooked pasta. That evening I made two kinds of pasta - one homemade tomato sauce with lots of basil, and another creamy-alfredo-type sauce. On the side we had vegetable sticks and dip, and I'm pretty sure I made some homemade foccacia that they could dip in all the sauces and stuff their faces with. It was Valentine's Day, and as none of us were dating one another (interestingly enough, among our friends in college two couples did end up getting married) I threw a Valetine's meal at home. I had a crush on some guy who was in graduate school and all my friends had some crazy plan to invite him over so that they could vet him and make sure he was good enough (for me). We even did some crazy decoration with hearts where we put code names of one another up on the wall (mine was "mommy") and laughed like crazy.
Mostly I remember cooking in the kitchen all the sauces, and yelling at everyone to eat. Back then it seems, I was very much like I am now, only I'm yelling at my children to eat. My friends joked around, often calling me "Mom" and asking me when dinner was, and we'd eat together, laughing and enjoying one another's company. The comfort of food and friends, while in college, is something I can't forget, and I think that may really have been the starting point for my desire to cook good food for others, as I often fed many many people then.
For dessert - I made lemon bars, which were my friend LK's absolute favorite and iced sugar cookies which were my other friend's DL's favorite. The combination of all that food and all that fun - makes for some great memories, and I was thrilled when I found the pictures.

My go to college meal was Cup-O-Noodles/Ramen or bologna sandwiches. How sad. I wish I had you as my roommate! I would have eaten so much better!!!
Sadly, I ate more burgers than I should have. I attempted cooking and failed miserably. Thank goodness for websites like yours to help wannabe cooks like me. ^_^
My two go-to college meals were ramen and totino's party pizzas!
I had a college roommate who would often make beef stew in a slow cooker. Those were the good days. The rest of the time, it was more like pasta with sauce and microwaved frozen peas! I remember baking a lot of cookies, though...

All of our roomates had one "specialty" dish that we would make almost weekly and we'd all end up cooking about one meal a night for the rest of the apartment to enjoy. Mine was always Korean fried rice.

I'm currently in college, and living off-campus this year, so I'm off the meal plan for the first time! I've been pretty good about cooking a variety of things for myself, but my go-tos when I'm low on time or energy are quesadillas and pasta.
Sadly, instant ramen, cchaccharoni, chocolate pudding, and nature valley granola bars
My go-to meal in right now (I'm still in college) has always been bibimbap! Also shin ramen with an egg cracked into it :)

Oh I ate plenty of top ramen, maruchan brand lol
My go-to meal was pizza, frozen or otherwise.
I made a lot of fried rice in college...maybe I should have called it leftover rice. Basically I would chop up whatever was in my fridge and throw it all together. Somehow it always tasted good. :)
haha i see a lot of eggs in the comments. mine also was either fried egg with rice and soy sauce, or ramen with egg :)
My go-to meal was baked potatoes or ramen. so sad. ;) we also made lots of hot rice with an egg cracked over it and some shoyu. so good...
my go to meal was spaghetti, and it wasn't anything special, just your basic prego sauce and pasta, but it certainly could go a long way.
fishstick burrito - flour tortilla with fishsticks, lettuce, and cocktail sauce!
My go to meal was either pizza or rice with whatever sidedish(es) I had brought from my parents' home.
spaghetti & curry
I didn't cook back in college--more to do with time and inability to cook decent food than the money--so my go-to meals were burgers, pizza, and burritos!
